MINICOMS: Defining the First Commercial Identity of the Product
Over the last few weeks, we have been working on defining the commercial identity of MINICOMS, a new communication platform developed by Generation RFID to simplify the integration of communication networks into automated test systems.
The initial objective was to create a first commercial brochure capable of clearly explaining what MINICOMS is, the challenges it addresses and the value it brings to engineering and test teams.
From Technology to Value
At first, it was tempting to present MINICOMS simply as a hardware interface supporting multiple communication protocols.
However, during the positioning process we reached an important conclusion:
Customers do not buy a communication interface. They buy a simple way to integrate real communication networks into their validation and test environments.
This led us to define the product positioning as:
MINICOMS – Communication Hub for Automated Test Systems
This positioning keeps the product open to future technologies and applications without restricting it to a specific market.
Open Architecture
One of the key differentiators of MINICOMS is its open architecture.
The platform is controlled through a standard Ethernet connection and can be integrated with any application capable of sending commands over a network.
This enables seamless integration with:
- Lynx Tester
- Python
- LabVIEW
- Customer proprietary software
- Other test and validation environments
No proprietary SDKs or dedicated development tools are required.
Supported Protocols
The first version of MINICOMS includes support for:
- CAN 2.0
- CAN FD
- LIN Master
- LIN Slave
- 100BASE-TX
- 100BASE-T1
- 1000BASE-T1
- 10BASE-T1S
The platform has been designed to allow additional protocols to be incorporated through future firmware updates.
Target Markets
Although automotive communications represent an important application area, MINICOMS has been positioned as a broader solution for multiple industries.
- Automotive Electronics
- Industrial Automation
- Power Electronics
- Embedded Systems
- Test System Integration
First Commercial Concept
As part of this process, we also developed the first commercial concept for the product, combining the current industrial design with Generation RFID's corporate image.
This initial version includes the product overview, supported protocols, system architecture, key benefits and target markets.
While still an early commercial iteration, it establishes a solid foundation for future product communication and market positioning.
MINICOMS continues to evolve, but this first phase has helped define the foundations of its commercial and technical identity.
